Mission Beach - Bingil BayIngham's Botanical Gardens - are a great place to stop and have lunch, then visit the elaborate mausoleums in the Ingham Cemetery.
Cardwell's Reef & Rainforest Visitors Centre - don't miss the new displays Dalrymple Gap Walk is a rugged 9km hike from Damper Creek on the Bruce Highway south of Cardwell and ends in the State Forest.
Wet Tropics Visitor Centre - Mission Beach has enough day walks to keep hikers busy for a week, stop in for a map and details.
Tully Visitor Centre - opposite the towns old saw mill.
Murray Falls - this lovely fall is 22km from the Bruce Highway.



Topcardwell

Bush Telegraph Heritage CentreBlencoe Falls - these spectacular 91m falls are in a remote area behind Cardwell on Blencoe Creek and can be reached on a dry-weather-only road, which takes you to the top of the falls, and provides spectacular views of the Herbert River Gorge.
Five Mile Swimming Hole - this attractive picnic spot and cool, shaded swimming hole, safe from crocs, sharks and stingers, is popular all year round. Excellent facilities including barbecues, toilets and easy access to the water have been provided by the Department of Natural Resources, just 700m off the highway, 7km south of Cardwell.
Cardwell Bush Telegraph Heritage Centre - Historic Post Office & Telegraph Station, built in 1870 is one of the oldest buildings in North Queensland. Closed in 1983 after serving the public for 113 years it has now reopened as a Heritage Centre and is Cardwell’s link in the Queensland Heritage Trails Network.
Hinchinbrook Island – is Australia's largest island National Park, surrounded by the World Heritage Great Barrier Reef, and is home to a secluded resort. There are no jet skis, powerboats or loud nightclubs, just first class accommodation and service amid lush rainforests, sandy beaches, excellent snorkelling and a variety of bird and marine life, including the rare and beautiful dugong.

Museum of Tropical Queensland - At the top of the main staircase, you will find the Great Gallery. This is an enormous display area featuring a real sized reconstruction of the bow of HMS Pandora.
The Strand - beachfront promenade frames the city centre, and is regarded as one of the best inner city beachfronts in Australia. The Strand is lined with restaurants, cafes, bars, recreational facilities, barbeque and picnic areas, swimming enclosures and pools, a waterpark and playgrounds for children, beautiful gardens and sweeping views of Cleveland Bay and Magnetic Island.
Castle Hill – take a drive up to Castle Hill for panoramic views of Townsville and Magnetic Island
Billabong Sanctuary – see native animals in their natural habitat. Wildlife talks, feeding and photo opportunities all day long. Located 17km south of Townsville.

Bowen MuralBig Mango - The BIG Mango is located at the Bowen Visitor Information Centre, 4 km south of Bowen. The BIG mango represents the delicious fruit which carries the name sake of the town “Bowen Mango”.
Bowen Historical Museum – from the Catalina Flying Boats, to the unbelievable story of James Morrill and his courageous story of survival, all of Bowen's history can be retraced at the Bowen Historical Museum.
Lookouts - It's no surprise that Bowen's lookouts are nothing short of spectacular. The view from Flagstaff Hill, is said to be one of the best sea views in Queensland. From here you can see all of Cape Edgecumbe bay, the North Island Lighthouse, and the other Whitsunday bays and islands.
Mullers Lagoon – is one of Bowen's most beautiful spots. Mullers Lagoon is 23.57 hectares of picturesque parkland in the centre of town, which has been turned into a superb botanical gardens and wetlands habitat. The picnic area which provides free BBQ's creates a relaxing place to eat, relax, and watch the feathered residents that call this lagoon home.
Murals - the 24 historical murals proudly displayed throughout Bowen's streets, depict the diverse history from the town's early settlement to present day. Visitors to Bowen may like to join the Mural Tour Group on Wednesday mornings, which takes you through the streets of Bowen for a fascinating tour of the murals.

Mackay Town Hall Artspace Mackay - discover the arts and culture of the Mackay region when you visit Artspace Mackay, the new regional art gallery and museum in the centre of the city.
Greenmount Homestead – at Walkerstone as a museum, is rather unusual. It's vast collection comes from three generations of the Cook family, prominent pioneers of the Pioneer Valley, whose contribution has helped shape the cultural, heritage and economic future of the region. Tours of the homestead are available.
Heritage Walk - The city Heritage Walk transports you back to the days of Australia's first settlers by highlighting some of Mackay's magnificent turn-of-the-century architecture. A must for any visitor, the 90-minute walk includes many buildings that are listed with the National Trust including the Mackay Court House
Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens - The Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens was opened May 2003, and is a picturesque landscape overlooking an extensive lagoon, showcasing the unique, diverse and spectacular vegetation of the central coast region.
Mackay Town Hall - Discover a living piece of Mackay's heritage at the Town Hall in Sydney Street, Mackay.
Queens Park Orchid House - The Ken Burgess Orchid House is situated in Queen's Park in Mackay City and has often been described as one of Mackay's secret treasures.
The Horizons Mosaic - On each of the four corners of the crossroads you will find the centre piece of the street - four quadrants of the Horizons Mosaic, a sixteen square metre circle depicting the elements - the rage of the cyclones in contrast with the wonderful colours created by the sun and the moon as they rise and set.

Toprockhampton & yeppoon

Fossicking in Rockhampton CQ Military & Artifacts Museum - houses artifacts from the military history of Rockhampton and district including American Army uniforms from World War Two and a room devoted entirely to Rockhampton history.
Heavens Above Skywatching - allows visitors to get up close with the night's sky. Through their telescopes, you can explore the cosmos and star gaze with the experts. Koranna Crocodile Farm - Located half an hour drive from Rockhampton, Koorana Crocodile Farm is a commercially operated crocodile farm and restaurant. Fully guided tours are operated daily with crocodile hatchings being seen from March to May. Visitors have the opportunity to touch and hold a specially trained crocodile.
Mount Archer National Park - Rising out of Rockhampton's north eastern suburbs, Mount Archer National Park provides magnificent views of the city and showcases a spectacular range of native Australian flora and fauna.
Mount Hay Gemstone Tourist Park - is an internationally known destination for thunderegg fossicking. Thundereggs or 'volcanic birthstones' are crystalline formations that occur when gas bubbles in molten lava solidify on cooling. Visitors to the park have a choice of browsing the gift shop, going fossicking (tools and assistance provided), or taking a guided tour of the fossicking area and the gemstone cutting and pewter casting factories.
Rockhampton Art Gallery - with the fine quality of its Australian art collection, its frequent exhibitions and its busy program of activities, is the hub of Central Queensland's art scene.
Botanic Gardens - is regarded as one of the best in regional Australia.
Yeppoon - The township has retained its village style appeal yet offers a variety of wonderful restaurants, shops and galleries. A charming esplanade with grassy knoll, palms and a covered picnic and play areas form a backdrop to a vista of sea, sky and islands.

Tondoon Botanic Gardens - are home to more than 1500 species of plants from the Port Curtis Region and far North Queensland. The gardens are set upon an 83 hectare site with a wide variety of flora and fauna. Lake Tondoon provides a habitat for a variety of freshwater birds. Free guided tours of the gardens are available. Picnic areas, toilets and a cafe are also located at the gardens making it the perfect spot for a family day out.

Mystery Craters - is a unique, fascination and interesting geological phenomenon as they are a series of craters in various sizes which have been discovered in a group on a rock formation which in itself is a puzzle. The gardens surrounding the craters host a replica of a Tyrannosaurus Rex dinosaur.
Mon Repos Turtle Rookery - is the largest and most accessible Loggerhead Turtle Rookery on the Australian Mainland. Each year from November to March, turtles come ashore and nest, followed six to eight weeks later by the emergence of baby 'hatchling' from their sandy nests.
The Southern Great Barrier Reef - is your first jumping off point travelling north to see one of the wonders of the natural world. Featuring the coral isles of Lady Musgrave and Lady Elliot Island.

Tophervey bay

Hervey Bay has beautiful beaches, calm stinger-free waters and, from late July to early November, the best whale-watching experience found anywhere in the Australia. Bordered by 40 kilometres of pristine beaches, Hervey Bay offers access to islands, adventure, wildlife and a beautiful safe aquatic playground for visitors to the Fraser Coast.

Scenic four wheel drive circuits and walking tracks take in some of the largest of the lakes, cool and peaceful rainforests of towering satinay and brush box trees, some over a thousand years old, contrast with swampy wetlands, heath lands full of wild flowers and coastal stands of Pandanus palms.
